Step 4 — Airflow Before Refrigerant, Always

Step 5 — Refrigerant Readings and the Superheat/Subcooling Math

Now the gauges go on. The technician records suction pressure, liquid pressure, suction line temperature, and liquid line temperature, then calculates superheat (on fixed-orifice systems) or subcooling (on TXV systems). The tech confirms the secondary pan and the float switch actually function.

Step 8 — The Findings Conversation and the Written Number

You should be shown the readings. Not told “it’s low on Freon” — shown the subcooling number, the capacitor reading, the amp draw, and what the manufacturer spec says it should be. Then you get a written price before work starts, not after.
